The Gilroy Cogeneration Plant is a highly efficient natural gas-fired facility located in Gilroy, California. The plant consists of one combustion turbine, one heat recovery steam generator, one steam turbine and two auxiliary boilers. It utilizes recycled water for cooling from the local regional wastewater authority.
The Gilroy Cogeneration Plant produces and sells thermal energy to a thermal host, Olam West Coast, under a long-term contract.
The plant was constructed by Bechtel Corp. in 1988, which operated the facility until Calpine acquired it in 1996. Calpine entered into a Resource Adequacy contract for the plant with Southern California Edison beginning in January 2014.
