The Pasadena Power Plant, a highly efficient natural gas-fired cogeneration facility located in Pasadena, Texas, was one of the nation’s first merchant plants to begin operations. Three combustion turbines are routed to heat recovery steam generators, which provide steam to two steam turbines.
Electricity and steam is sold to Chevron Phillips Chemical Company under a long-term contract. Pasadena Power Plant also uses three auxiliary boilers as a back-up system for the steam supply to Chevron Phillips. Additional power is sold into the ERCOT market.
In 2009, the plant was granted Bronze-level membership status in the Clean Texas Program, sponsored by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Clean Texas provides recognition for companies that serve as leaders among Texas workplaces that seek to achieve significant environmental results, create environmental awareness and protect air, water and land resources in Texas.
